The Muppet Show

The internet is a funny place. And to paraphrase Sir Charles Barkley, ‘”by funny, I mean stupid.” I tend not to put any stock into, let alone even read, random internet strangers’ opinions, with the few exceptions of my own comment section (that means you wonderful people), some other select blogs and Deadspin.

muppet.jpgBut, in the course of trying to satisfy my insatiable taste for footy news, I ventured into an unexplored back alley of Sky Sports’ Football section — The ‘Sky Sports News Debate’ where they house/throw-away all the insightful analysis/arguments a 13-year old can handle.

This particular topic of debate was “Benitez on brink?” — an obvious talking point after the he said/they said of the past week. So, weakened by hunger for all things Liverpool and in a rather snarky mood, I snuck a peek and cherry-picked some of the most amusing/retarted lines for our amusement/judgement.

‘Dipo Abbey disu’ starts us off with his best Sherlock Holmes/Dwight Shrute…

If liverpool appoint a tactician ( e.g) capello they would do well in Champs. league and under perform in the EPL. If they hire a British the thier chances of winning the EPl may be bolstered but thier Champs. League failure is very certain. It is on this note i deduce that Rafa is the best man for the job.

Deduce? Jolly good job, old chap!

‘Lesley Mcconnell’ promotes an oddly popular opinion on Rafa’s replacement…

No one is bigger than the Club and he never plays Gerrard in best postion. Bring on Jose!!!

‘Josh Todd’ is hedging his bets and has his seat on another bandwagon reserved. My guess is that he was a Leeds/David O’Leary fan six years ago…

Oh i don’t know, maybe i just wish Rafa was Mourinho. Silly as it sounds! YNWA

‘Adam Tompkins’ takes the nonsense a step further, inventing fun ‘facts’…

If we do decide to get rid of Rafa then the ideal choie is jose mourinho who has had success wherever he goes. He has shown interest aswell.

‘Ranjit Nahal’ adds his two cents…

I think the owners have realised that Rafa will never win the premiership, he won La Liga when both Real and Barca were a shambles, the points Valencia amassed were record lows for La Liga winners! The man to take us forward is the one and only Jose Mourinhio! Please, please replace him with Jose, then we can go back to dominating English football.

‘Shannon Major’ (a confessed Man United fan), fresh from an extended glue-huffing session, has an interesting take on it all…

Rafa Benitez is always playing the same players and he needs to take a look on how he’s treating the team players. Because all the atention is going on torres. He dosnt care about the other players, the only reason he likes torres better than the other players is because they have one thing in commen, they both come from spain.

    My favorite has to be:
‘he won La Liga when both Real and Barca were a shambles’

This person obviously failed to take the time to look at the Real and Barca squads from those years. Madrid had Zidane, Makélélé, Fernando Hierro, Raul, Morientes (hey, he was actually good for them), Figo, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Beckham, and so on and so forth. Barcelona had Ronaldinho, Frank De Boer, Bronckhorst, Cocu, Iniesta, Luis Garcia, Puyol, and way too many more to name. It’s not possible for squads as loaded as those to ever be in enough ‘shambles’ not to win the title. A draw Deportivo would be ‘shambles’ for ’em. What Rafa did at Valencia was nothing short of amazing.

…and that last quote has to be the most delusional I’ve ever read.

I’m waiting for the Special One to take over your blog, sven. Or at least your Oh, You Beauty fantasy team.

Manton, if it were possible to get fired from one’s own fantasy teams, I’d have been sacked in early September.

“Out with Sven! Out with Sven!”

and Brian, the Spanish favoritism is by far the most entertaining for me.

Methinks this might be a reoccurring segment — the silliest Liverpool-centric comments from the Web.

I’m not sure that all the other commentators weren’t self-repressed Chelsea fans.

I don’t really understand this new found public infatuation for the special one. These people seem to forget why he was let go from Chel$ki in the first place. His style of football is dull and uninspiring, granted he gets wins but when i cough up 50-60 quid to watch a game, I’d like to be entertained. Now everyone one wants him to run England….rubbish!
